Doing a paid shoot sounds exciting. Yet doing it for the first time adds a little nervousness to a photographer. Those are the emotions that I felt when I was invited to cover Kelvin and Shine's wedding last May 27, 2014. I had such feelings due to the following reasons:
(1) Limited equipment. I only used a d5100 Nikon model. No lighting paraphernalia, no assistant, no whatsoever.
(2) Payment. Being used to nature photography, I had no guarantee succeeding into wedding photography venture. I was hoping that the quality of the shots would somehow satisfy the family with the amount they would give me. Given it was my first time, I didn't set the rate. And I was surprised with the amount I received :o)
(3) The Official photographer. Ok, there was a PRO present during that occasion. Somehow it lessened the pressure that I felt because I won't tire myself anticipating every movement the couple would make. It was an opportunity for me to learn from them. I tried to observe how they guided the people in posing, how they documented the bridal entrance and how they used their lighting equipment.
Having tried such, I look forward into meeting my next client. By this time, I am looking for ways to improve my craft. Shooting weddings is enjoyable though.
